That’s the way the money goes …

Our President, Lion Ian, has been out and about presenting cheques to various organisations.

January and February are a quiet time in our Lions calendar, where we recover from the hectic round of November’s fireworks and December’s Santa runs. It is, however, a time when we can take stock and spend some of the money that you have kindly donated!

Our President, Lion Ian, has been out and about presenting cheques to various organisations that give help directly to those in greatest need in our local community. Donations of £250 each have been given to the Over 80s parcel fund, The Mayor of Newbury’s Benevolent Fund, The Mayor of Thatcham’s nominated charity of the year, Homestart and the West Berkshire Food Bank. Donations have also been made to the Royal British Legion and to the Ecchinswell Bells Restoration Trust, in memory of a great friend and supporter of Lions’ work. There are some further donations yet to be made, but the remainder forms the basis of our welfare fund, which is used throughout the year to support those in need in the community.

Two of our regular schemes will run again this year. A day out in Paulton’s Park, as part of a Lions District initiative, and our caravan holidays. A coachload of children and families from the Dingley Family Centre will set off for Paulton’s Park in April and 9 families will have the benefit of a caravan holiday on the south coast during the Easter and Summer school holiday period.

Throughout the year we receive requests for funding of vital items for families in need, through local health visitors and social workers. This is another of the ways that we are able to make sure your donations reach those who really need them.

… and that’s not all!!
